Synopsis of an article on Thought Leaders by Jon Wortmann published 24th June 2020.

In this article Jon explains how work pressure and feeling tired can lead to burn out and exhaustion. The symptoms of burn out at work have three clear symptoms that all leaders must watch out for in ourselves and in others: chronic metal or emotional fatigue, cynicism and dissatisfaction.

Are you consistently exhausted, irritated with the people around you, bothered by issues that used to roll off your back?

Do you find yourself more critical than normal, judging and picking apart people and situations with an edge that isn’t who are or want to be?

Do you find less joy in your work, perhaps even experience it to be meaningless?

As Jon explains if you recognise any of the above situations in your self or in others its time to start consider a plan how to change your life. The signs of burn out are the best way to identify and plan a new path.

Recovering faster is the goal and the best way requires you to have a coping strategy, a way to plan how to deal with the cause of what is burning us out.

Once you notice yourself getting cooked, recovery demands spend time letting your brain, emotional self, and body heal from the significant efforts you make every day.“

There are numerous strategies for managing stress, pressure and burn-out that you may already use every day. Meditation, Mindfulness, Yoga, Exercis, Coaching, Structured Work Rituals, Energy Management, Sprint Planning and of course holidays.

Recovery is not a Brain Hack. It is a set of patterns you trust to give you the space to consolidate what you learn each day and get strong again.”

The third step and the most important is planning – So start recovering goes a lot faster with effective planning both the way you work and when you work. Jon finishes this article reminding us that the feeling of being burned out is valuable, it is a signal from our body telling our brain that we need to stop and do something different.

“Recovering faster is always possible when we notice the signs that how we are working actually isn’t working”
